Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne have made quite a shift. In Neighbors and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, they played a married couple. However, in the first season of their Apple TV+ show Platonic, they’re just former best friends who are, well, platonic, and that’s the deal. The first season was a hit in 2023 (with a 93-percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, that’s pretty impressive), doing well enough to secure a second season.
The new season, created by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, is coming to Apple TV+ soon, so before it drops, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming episodes.
Plot
Apple previously mentioned about the first season, “Platonic follows a platonic pair of former best friends approaching midlife who reconnect after a long rift. The duo’s friendship becomes all-consuming — and hilariously disrupts their lives.” Regarding the new season, they say it “picks up with everyone’s favorite pair of best friends as they face new midlife challenges, including work, weddings, and partners in crisis. The duo tries their best to support each other — but sometimes rocks can cause damage.”
They’re not getting together this time around either, as Stoller and Delbanco shared with The Hollywood Reporter.
Rogen previously shared with the publication about making the second season:
“Honestly, we had discussed it during the first season, but I get really anxious about how it’s going to be received. I’m not one to count my chickens before they hatch. I’ve had that experience where I drive around on Friday night of opening weekend for my movies and find empty theaters. I really just wanted to see if we were satisfied with it when it released — and if everyone else enjoyed it too. I was a bit nervous about how high my expectations were for what we were creating, and I wanted to ensure we could actually pull it off. And once I realized we could, I thought, ‘Alright, we should keep this going.’”
Cast
Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen will be back, along with Carla Gallo, Luke Macfarlane, and others.
