Justin Bieber is just starting his 30s, yet he has already spent nearly half of his life in the spotlight after rising to fame as a young pop sensation. He has made significant progress since those early days, and now Bieber has taken a moment to look back through a nostalgic video.

Today on social media (July 15), he posted (with a series of teary-eyed emojis) a 30-second clip from a CTV interview he conducted in 2008, shortly after he became well-known and a year prior to the release of his debut EP, 2009’s My World. In the video, Bieber was asked about his vision for his career. He replied, “Well, I see myself doing more, like, R&B.”

As we know, Bieber indeed went on to weave a more pronounced R&B influence into his music as his career evolved, including in his recently dropped surprise album, Swag.

At the same time, Bieber has recently distanced himself from another aspect of his past: His fashion label Drew House. He released a statement saying, “I Justin Bieber am no longer involved in this brand. Drew House doesn’t represent me or my family or life. If you’re rocking with me, the human Justin Bieber, don’t waste your money on Drew House.”
