As JID’s fourth studio album, God Does Like Ugly, gets closer to its release date, he has gone back to one of his favorite tactics: dropping an exciting freestyle to hype up the upcoming project. He put out “30” in January 2024 and “31” in October, so it makes sense that his newest track is “32.”
The video starts with a scroll that highlights his accomplishments from the past few years: 3 Grammy nominations, 4.6 billion views on YouTube, and humorously, the title of “best rapper under 100 years old.” The rest of the video features old VHS clips of him playing football (he played two seasons of NCAA Division I football at Hampton University before starting his rap career). Interestingly, did you know that JID’s real last name is “Route?” You could say he was meant for the game — just now, he’s competing in a different field.
Even though JID has already released two videos to promote God Does Like Ugly — “Bodies” and “WRK” — “32” doesn’t appear to be an official video for the album. Instead, it’s part of a mixtape he plans to drop on the 4th of July as a lead-up to the project called GDLU Preluxe, presented by JD Sports. With JID and J. Cole leading the charge, Dreamville continues to excel in merging sports with music.

God Does Like Ugly is scheduled to drop on 8/9 through Dreamville/Interscope. More information can be found here.
