While both Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar are renowned for their impressive Grammy Award collections, which recently expanded with an Album of the Year and Record/Song of the Year award respectively, they are also unexpectedly competing against each other in several categories at the 2025 Emmy Awards.

Beyoncé’s Beyoncé Bowl and Kendrick’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show have both received nominations for Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Variety Special (Live), and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special. Additionally, Beyoncé Bowl has a nomination for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, while Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl show is recognized for Outstanding Music Direction. Interestingly, both specials feature the same choreographer: Charm La Donna from Compton, who has collaborated with artists like Dua Lipa, Rosalía, and Selena Gomez, and won an MTV Video Music Award for the “Con Altura” video by Rosalía, J Balvin, and El Guincho.

Doechii’s Grammy performance is also nominated for Outstanding Choreography, and Beyoncé has an extra nomination for Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special. Ironically, if Kendrick wins Outstanding Variety Special over Beyoncé, her family will still receive a trophy; her husband Jay-Z is nominated as a producer for the Super Bowl halftime show.

The 77th Emmy Awards are set to take place on September 14 at 8 PM ET/ 5 PM PT on CBS and Paramount Plus.
